MIRA and a number of other groups helped defeat the proposed 50% increase on liquor license fees under a budget reported by the Senate Appropriations Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee today.
The Senate did, however, agree with the governor’s proposal to delay or eliminate sunsets on some 49 fees collected throughout the department that generate about $17.5 million annually. And the Senate included an additional $900,000 from the Liquor Purchase Revolving Fund to address a deficit in funding for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission licensing and enforcement.
The subcommittee sent the bill to the full Appropriations Committee on a 2-1 party-line vote.
