It is anticipated that House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) will introduce legislation any day that will include language to fully repeal debit swipe fee reform. Hensarling has stated publicly that passing his Choice Act is his top legislative priority of 2017 and that he expects the full House of Representatives to consider the bill in the first 100 days of the Trump Administration.
Now is the time for members of the convenience and fuel retailing industry to raise their voice in opposition to any efforts that would repeal or weaken the debit reforms we fought so hard to achieve. If Hensarling’s efforts are successful, your debit fees will dramatically increase, negatively impacting your business, employees, and customers. To contact your member of Congress, click here to send a pre-drafted letter asking that they protect debit swipe fee reform.
