The U. S. Supreme Court on Thursday ruled to uphold tax credits for Americans purchasing health care coverage through federal exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act.
The 6-3 decision, in King v. Burwell, affirmed that of the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, which found the ACA’s language ambiguous and gave the Obama administration the green light to allow subsidies nationwide.
The ruling allows an estimated 161,000 Ohioans to continue receiving premium subsidies.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Avon) praised the high court’s decision, saying it “reaffirmed what the health law is all about: helping hardworking families purchase affordable health insurance.”
